Description
Welcome to Kakshaz.in, your premier destination for cracking the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in Physics. Led by Shanu Arora Sir (AIR 25, IIT Bombay), our platform provides the exact strategy, depth, and conceptual clarity you need to secure a top rank and unlock prestigious career opportunities.
What is GATE (Physics)?
The GATE Physics (PH) exam is a highly competitive national-level test conducted jointly by the IISc and IITs. Achieving a high score opens doors to Direct Ph.D. admissions at IITs, NITs, and IISc. Additionally, it serves as the primary screening gateway for prestigious scientist jobs at Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and research institutions like BARC, ISRO, and DRDO.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates looking to appear for the GATE Physics paper must satisfy the following basic requirements.
- Academic Background: Students with a Master’s degree in Physics/Mathematics/relevant sciences or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology (B.Tech/B.E.).
- Final-Year Eligibility: Students currently in the 3rd year or final year of any eligible undergraduate/postgraduate program can apply.
- Age Limit: There is no minimum or maximum age restriction to attempt the exam.
Important Dates to Track
- The GATE exam follows a fixed timeline every year. Ensure you mark these milestones.
- Application Window: Registration usually opens online in August/September.
- Admit Card Release: Hall tickets are typically available for download in January.
- Exam Date: The computer-based test is held on weekends in early to mid-February.
- Result Declaration: Official scores and responses are announced in March.
Syllabus & High-Weightage Topics
The GATE Physics paper consists of General Aptitude (15% weightage) and Core Physics (85% weightage). To maximize your score, master these critical areas.
- Mathematical Physics: Vector calculus, complex variables, Fourier series, Laplace transforms, and probability.
- Classical Mechanics: Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations, central force motion, and special relativity.
- Electromagnetic Theory: Electrostatics, magnetostatics, Maxwell’s equations, and electromagnetic waves.
- Quantum Mechanics: Wave-particle duality, 1D potentials, angular momentum, and time-independent perturbation theory.
- Thermodynamics & Statistical Physics: Laws of thermodynamics, ensembles, Maxwell-Boltzmann, Fermi-Dirac, and Bose-Einstein statistics.
- Solid State, Atomic, & Nuclear Physics: Crystal structures, lasers, Zeeman effect, nuclear models, and elementary particles.
